Private tutor in Ban Rangsit, Thailand
Education
MFA in Creative Writing, Emerson College, 1997 BA in English (Writing Concentration), Framingham State College, 1995 I was a very active student, especially as an undergraduate. I was a DJ for our college radio station, published in the school's literary journal, acted with the theater group, wrote a weekly Op/Ed column for the school newspaper, and served as student government Treasurer. I loved being involved and active in as much that was going on at school as possible, and was never afraid to speak my mind (which was not always helpful!).
Experience
While I am an experienced classroom teacher, over the course of my 20+ years in the field, I have discovered I especially enjoy working one-to-one with students to help them plan out the steps needed to achieve their long-term goals. I am passionate about educating students, and doing so in an ethically responsible manner. When necessary, I prefer to maintain communication with teachers and guidance counselors to ensure I am working with them, rather than at cross-purposes. My experience as a teacher and tutor ranges from college admissions counseling and academic/creative writing to test prep (SAT, GRE, GMAT, SSAT, and iBT TOEFL). This has included training other teachers, curriculum development, management, and consulting in addition to teaching and tutoring. For the past 10+ years, I have been doing this work in Bangkok, Thailand, which has given me significant experience with preparing and tutoring non-native English speakers, most of whom are international school students.

Hobbies
I love to read. It's been a passion of mine since I was a young child. In addition to literary fiction, I really enjoy science fiction and fantasy as well as satire. I have a relatively dry sense of humor, but I also have a tendency to get goofy, since I love to see people laugh. I've been known to get into equally intense discussions about politics, Kardashians, and the Oxford comma. I am pretty knowledgeable about cheesy '80s movies and music. I grew up on rock, alternative, and metal, and I still love to listen to them when I'm driving or working out. However, since I work with mostly high school-aged students, I am also familiar with pop culture. I consider myself a born teacher, and I am extremely proud of that, especially since it follows a family tradition (my dad is a college physics professor). I look forward to using these skills and passions to help you or your kids going forward.
